The Great New York State Meet Preview - Indoors 2022

Boys 1600m

Event Info: 2020 Winner: Pedro Bravo (Iona Prep) 4:14.40, State Record: 4:05.50y, Meet Record (2000s): 4:10.51

State of the Action: No clear favorite is the best way to describe the 1600m field this year. There are plenty of qualified athletes, but none stick out as an overwhelming favorite. Myles Hogan (Fordham Prep) has the top Season Best, but his best battles will be required in the longer distance. His 4:11 best from Millrose may be enough to hold off the field, but Nate Davis (Columbia) will be coming in fresh with his 4:18.49. It could change the dynamics of the race, making sure to not leave anything to a kick. Staten Island local Joe Perazzo (Susan Wagner) also carries a 4:18 best, and has enough credentials to be right in the mix when it comes down to the final lap. Not to be forgotten is sophomore Collin Stafford (South Lewis), who has the most speed of the field as demonstrated by his 600m prowess.
