State of the Action: Only two athletes in the field have been over 41-ft in the field, not to mention the only two over 40-0, and they are set to do battle for the first time. Alexandra Kelly (Rocky Point) was the breakout star of the COVID spring Season, hitting 41-2.25, albeit ineligible for record purposes without a wind-gauge. She hasn't hit that mark yet indoors this year, but 40-9 is close enough. Way North of Long Island, you have Tamiah Washington (Proctor), who's on her second State Meet, after qualifying as a sophomore. She hit the perfect jump at OCC, clearing 41-1. Washington doesn't have the consistency over 40-feet that Kelly does, but she does seem to be riding the momentum of a late season push. If both athletes have off days, then Lanee Hall (Sweet Home) is one extra step away for the title as well, coming in with a best of 39-10. | |||||
