NYT&F Battle of the Years - Top 15 Showdown 2008-2015

. . . . . . Group 6: Hurdles and Steeplechase

The hurdlers and steeplers step up and take a shot at breaking down the barriers to victory

As we enter the later stages of the BotY, the recent squads are still doing well enough but the 2010 team has moved to the top and the 2009 girls are claiming to be the best. Could it be that the athletes of long ago (2009 and 2010) were really that much better?

The 2015 team plainly had enough with certain aspersions about their abilities and they Benjamined and Jibbed all the way back into the lead in the three-event hurdles-barriers group. Two 1sts and a 2nd for 28 of a max 30 points propelled them all the way back to a 1-point lead over the 2012 team at the top, who did very well themselves with a 1st, 2nd, and 5th for 22 ca-chunkas. Previous leader 2014 did okay with 14 points to remain close behind in 3rd, but the 2010 guys were completely hurdle-challenged with with just 6 points and dive-bombed to 4th place, 14 points off the lead.

The three-way battle between 2009, 2010, and 2015 took another twist in the hurdling events as the '10ers racked up a 1st, 2nd , and 3rd to leave the 2009 leaders in the dust off of a weak 8 point performance. But the 2015 squad also did very well with a 1st in the 100m hurdles, a 2nd in the 400m hurdles, and 22 points overall to move into 2nd.

.

Any fears about the 2015 group being not quite up to snuff were at least partly allayed by the boys and girls combined strong performance in the hurdle-steeple group to move into the lead by 6 points. The showdown will be with the 2010 group which lurks only 6 points behind and is rumored to have one of the best relay contingents ever.
