NYT&F Battle of the Years - Top 15 Showdown 2008-2015

. . . . . . Group 4: Mid Distance

Right near the middle of the BotY competition comes the 400m and 800m for those who can't decide whether they want to be sprinters or to go the distance

The mid distance contingents enter the fray just as three squads seem to be breaking away. Can any member of the trailing pack that includes 2012, 2009, 2011, and 2013 get back up among the leaders?

After tumbling back to 4th after six events, the 2015 guys redeemed themselves with a 1st in the 800m and a 2nd in the 400m. The 18 points from the mid distance events pushed the 2015 guys back into 2nd, 4 points behind the 2014 squad that edged them out for 1st in the 400m. The 2012 squad picked up 13 points helped by a 2nd in the 800m, and climbed ahead of the 2010 team that had a middling showing here.

The 2009 girls surged into the lead with a 2nd in the 400m and then a crushingly strong 1st in the 800m led by national champ Claudia Francis along with Charlene Lipsey. The 2015 girls fell to 2nd as there was just not enough depth behind Kamryn McIntosh and Sammy Watson in the 800m to keep them from picking up only a 7th there. The 2010 squad continued to gain momentum with a 2nd and 4th to move closer in 3rd, and last year's team oddly combined a 1st in the 400m with a last place 8th in the 800m to remain 4th overall.

.

The 2015 team continued to hold onto the lead with only small changes in the gaps between squads as the actions of boys teams tended to balance the movements on the girls side. Four groups down, ten events to go, and it's still a battle between three teams at the top.
