NYT&F Battle of the Years - Top 15 Showdown 2008-2015

. . . . . . Group 2: Sprints

The speed demons turn on the jets in the second stage

The sprinters in the 100m and 200m races can always be counted on to get the crowds packing it in at the finish line to see who's going to get the lean. This year's sprint corps definitely had some highlight moments, but the stats for the top 15 performers point toward another year when speed ruled.

The sprinters from 2010 dominate on the guys' side with 1sts in both events. Two names that will be talked about more in the BotY Leaders contest are Jordan Thomas and Darnell Cummings, both of whom were seniors in 2010, and no one came close to Thomas's 10.30 in the 100m or Cummings' 20.90 in the 200m. Those are each just one of fifteen marks for the 2010 squad, but it got them off on the right foot with a lead that was hard for any year to make up. The 2015 group did okay with a 5th and a 2nd, and after four events they are among four teams bunched within 2 points of each other at the top.

The 2010 sprint girls took a 3rd and a 1st to help their combined sprint group capture 36 of the maximum 40 points in the boys and girls speed events. But the 2015 girls matched the 1st and 3rd places by narrowly holding off the 2009 and 2010 teams in the 100m dash. If you thought you were seeing some serious speed among the girls this year, you were right. And the 2015 girls' squad blasted to the top of the charts with a commanding lead after four events, with 2009 and 2010 a ways behind.

.

The good showing of the 2015 sprint girls boosts the 2015 team into the lead by 9 points over 2010 and 10 points ahead of last year. But we're still less than a quarter of the way through.
