Complete 2020 CHSAA Championship Snap Recap

CHSAA Boys Recap

Wrap-up

The duo of Fordham Prep and Xavier had much better speed ratings at the NY-BQ CHSAA at VCP than did the NSCHSAA's top two of Chaminade and St. Anthony's at the new Our Lady of Mercy course. At Intersectionals however, Chaminade just picked up its performance by a big margin, placing five guys in the top 17 and boosting its speed ratings by almost 5 points (4.6 TR equates to 14 seconds). Senior Frank Naudus led the Flyers' squad at 4th and Michael Cahill was 6th. Jake Orfano (11th), Sean McDermott (13th), and Owen Sweeney (17th) brought the Flyers home with 52 points to edge reigning champ Xavier by 6 points. Chaminade's average time at VCP was 13:47, one second slower than what Xavier had done two weeks earlier to win the NY-BQ CHSAA City title.

Xavier packed a top 6 of Michael Hawkes (5th), Quincy Flett (8th), Jacob Goell (10th), Michael Tuffey (15th), Owen Hassler (18th), and freshman Carter Johnson (20th) into the top 20, but the average time of 13:49 for the top 5 was just slower enough than at NY-BQ CHSAA to get squeezed out at Intersectionals. Fordham Prep in 3rd at 66 points actually had the best time average in the race at 13:46 as Myles Hogan in 1st and Eamonn Sullivan in 3rd gave them a big advantage at the top and Liam Dennehy and Lucas Moran in 12th and 14th helped the Rams to a 4-point margin through four runners, but the 5th spot had a tough day. St. Anthony's led by Robert Doherty in 7th placed 4th, Monsignor Farrell behind Mike Ryan in 9th was 5th, Regis led by Luke Ellwood's 2nd was 6th, and Archbishop Molloy in 7th was led by Christian Bien-Aime in 26th.

The Varsity B race winner St. John the Baptist had the 7th best average time of all teams on the day and was led by the individual winner Fernando Sanchez. Xaverian won the C race and was led by runner-up Marco Sanducci, and St. Raymond's Gabe Gonzalez finished 1st.

The favorite, Fordham Prep junior Myles Hogan, captured the win with a 12:44.1 time and 187 speed rating, improving his last year's 6th place time by 15 seconds. Regis senior Luke Ellwood improved by 45 seconds from 2019 to finish 2nd, while FP senior Eamonn Sullivan was 3rd, Chaminade senior Frank Naudus led the Flyers champs at 4th, and junior Michael Hawkes led Xavier with a 5th.
