State of the Action: It looks to be as competitive a 1K as there ever has been, with multiple storylines throughout. At the top is Sierra Dinneen (Notre Dame Academy), who took second overall at the State Meet last year in the 1500m, and comes in as the top seed in the 1000m this year. Behind her are Mary Hennelly (Suffern) and Sarah Trainor (FDR). Both athletes have overcome bouts with injury in their careers, to come back poised as Seniors for a title. Of the pair, Trainor has the best PR, with a 2:48.81 from last year. Trainor is also the runner-up from the year before. If she could get back to peak fitness, the title may be within reach. And of course, there is a fresh face in the mix. Freshman Kate Putman (CNS) comes in with a flat-track 2:55.13, and nothing to lose with three years left of opportunity. The option to take risks here could pay off big. | |||||
