2022 NYSPHSAA Girls State Championship Meet Preview

Girls Class A - Individuals

Breakdown:

Things don't always play out as projected. We saw that last year as Izzie Sullivan upset Karrie Baloga at States. Both are back, but Baloga has moved to Class B. Sullivan had a breakout performance at the Chittenango Invite, but has only raced once since then, where she was beaten by Kate Putman at Sectionals. That opens the door for another Sophomore, Lillie Bogdan, who is undefeated head-to-head this year. She's been getting better each week, and could pull off a big race. Emily Bush, despite the 4th seed, is the second best returner from 2021, and has also been undefeated this Season. She's running for a team title to boot, and the extra motivation could be enough to push her over the line first. Lastly, the wild card is Zariel Macchia, who took a relaxed win at Sectionals, only to run a Road 5k the next day, winning the title there in 17:41 on a hard NYC course.
