2021 NYSPHSAA Girls State Championship Meet Preview

Girls Class B - Individuals

Breakdown:

Only a freshman, Emilia O'Leary has a potential gap on the field. She's known to show up in big fields, putting impressive marks together at the McQuaid Invitational as well as her home invite. She's vying for all important team points, and the motivation can be a big factor in the way races are run here. On paper, she's the odds-on favorite.

That said, she was beaten in the merge by Lizzie Lucason the last time they were at Chenango for Pre-States.  Lucason is the reigning State Champ, and took about an 8-point Speed Rating jump once in the meet. She's also run a State Meet here before, and knows the course well, in both warm and cold conditions. Could she come back for the win?

Sierra Gray and Una Boylan have both been keeping their races local, going no higher in New York State than Bowdoin Park. That doesn't put them at a deficit though, it just means they'll get their first stab at the big races come States. Both girls are undefeated this season, so that will change for at least one of them.

Quick History:
East Aurora has three Individual State Titles, last seen with Sophia Tasselmeyer's title defense in 2015
Miller Place has had 14 top ten finishes, with the highest placing in 2nd place
Lizzie Lucason has three top ten finishes, the only for Camden, with a win in 2019
