Recap: For the first time in meet history, the Eastern States Champion didn't come from NY, NJ, or PA. Ranked 7th coming into the meet, Bishop Hendricken of Rhode Island pulled an upset on the field to win the coveted team title. Just a week before, they were a distant third at Great American, fifteen points off Bolles of Florida, and nearly twice the amount of points of winners Loudoun Valley. But that all changed at Manhattan, where they took their 26-second compression from GA, and brought it down to a 21-second compression at VCP, all the while improving 1-5. Each athlete averaged a five second Speed Rating bump from last week, making them a dangerous team moving forward. A performance like that at Great American would have put their fifth ahead of Loudoun's 4th, and their lead runner equal to Loudoun's second.
For many, all eyes were on FM and CBA, and for good reason. So what happened? Manlius saw their fifth man turn into their leader, while two of their top guys had off days. It demonstrated their potential, now with four certified guys capable of breaking 180. If they shore up their back end, they could rival anyone. For CBA Lincroft, just like at Bowdoin, their Top 3 dominated, running nearly identical Speed Ratings. However, their 4th was 30-seconds off his projected finish based off Bowdoin, and the fifth much the same. Troy Hill has yet to return, which could bump CBA to equal Manlius' 4 guys over 180, but until then, CBA has a lot to look forward to with a rematch of Hendricken at the NXN-NE Regional.
Bolles had a decent showing despite their place, finishing behind teams they were projected too. Claremont ran equal to their expectations as well, with other teams coming back to them. Their Speed Rating projections were essentially equal to those listed in our preview.
