NYT&F Battle of the Years - Leaders Showdown 2008-2015 Indoors

. . . . . . Group 5: Horizontal Jumps
Doubling up for a top mark in both the long and triple jumps in the same year is not something that is done very often. In fact, the only jumper to accomplish the feat in the Leaders contest was AJ Johnson back in 2008. This year of course there is a guy from Beacon who has huge leads in both events and a girl from Rush-Henrietta who is way up in the LJ and 3rd in the TJ right now, so we may be seeing some possibilities for the future. McKayla Brooks came pretty close to a double as the won the triple in 2014 and the LJ last year. Darrel Jones is the only one who earned consecutive triumphs with tops in the TJ in 2013 and 2014, but Jen Clayton took the long jump in her sophomore and senior years in 2008 and 2010.

Like their Top 15 contingent, the 2015 guys leap-frogged the competition to a big lead as Charlie Lambert in the long jump and Jared Lovelace in the triple jump earned 1sts to push their squad 10 points ahead. Former leader 2014 is the only other team still at all close, as Darrell Jones led the way with a 4th in the TJ. Shane Green took 2nd for 2011 in the TJ and Desmond Mobley got a 2nd in the LJ for 2013, but their squads are now more than 30 points back.

Jen Clayton had a tough time figuring out where her loyalties lay as her sophomore self got a 2nd in the LJ for the 2008 squad and her senior persona was 1st in 2010, but 2008 is in 8th while 2010 is just 2 points off the lead, so she put the biggest points where they would help most. 2013 remained on the lead with 71 points as Ally Shaw and Anisa Toppin got just enough to keep their team ahead. Marie Josee Ebwea-Bile gave her 2015 team a much-needed boost with a 1st in the TJ, leaving her team in 6th place, 1 point behind a 2009 team that got a 2nd in the TJ from Olivia Kelly.

With three 1sts and a 6th in the horizontal jumps, 2015 takes over the lead from 2013 and jumps out to a 15 point margin after five rounds. Still a lot of action to come as we sky off toward the verticals.
