NYT&F Battle of the Years - Leaders Showdown 2008-2015 Indoors

. . . . . . Meet Wrap-up

The Indoors Leaders' Battle of the Years saw the 2015 team repeat its Top 15 wins in the Boys and Combined contests, though the Girls contest went to a 2010 squad that also won in the outdoors. The success of the 2015 team may suggest that new and updated track venues and the increasing popularity of high school track action fueled by greater coverage (shameless plug for MileSplit here) are drawing more top athletes to the sport and sprouting greater and greater performances. On the other hand, Rayvon Grey just leaped to this year's US #1 distance at the Rockland Community College Fieldhouse, which few would call state of the art unless they love that artsy orange glow, so maybe it's just that the athletes are getting better. And since the Leaders scores bounce around quite a bit through the eight years, maybe there's no trends or patterns at all except that if you have Mary Cain on your side at her prime, that's a big help.

So the Leaders contest athletes pack their bags, and maybe the 2008 group bids a final adieu as they relinquish their spot in any further Battle of the Years contests to a 2016 squad that is equipped with a far bigger bag of data. They all gave it their all, and a number of results were decided by a hundredth of a second or a quarter of an inch. We will never see the likes of these athletes again -- at least not until next the next BotY contest rolls around.

If for any strange reason you wish to peruse the Google sheet that the data is loaded into 14 sheets, it should be viewable at BattleOfTheYearsForIndoorTrack.
