54th McQuaid To Be One Of The Fastest Ever Run - Full Recap

Girls AAA

Individuals

Breakdown: Yes, Jenna Schulz was the defending Champ, however, she came in as sort of an underdog.  Brooke Rauber had run the 8th fastest time ever on the course in the year prior, garnering a 146 Speed Rating.  Schulz had only broken 140 once, running a 144 at NXN.  She was averaging 137 at the end of last year, as well as at Chittenango.
None of that mattered when the gun went off.  Rauber took the race out hard, and Schulz followed close behind.  Alongside them was the unknown, in Ginger Murnieks, who had several high 140 ratings to her name as well.  The Lee's Summit transfer was an ever-present surge to keep the race going. Rauber did much of the early work, but with a sense of a fading pace, Schulz pushed past.  She surged the  back hills, and came down with 800m to go in chase of a fast time.  She crossed the line in 16:52.2, just 0.02 ahead of Rauber's time from the year before, moving Schulz to #8 All-Time on the course, and her highest Speed Rating ever, at 147.

Teams

Breakdown: They were Missouri #1, but many New Yorkers didn't know what to make of that.  As the race went off, several new jersey's were among the leaders.  With a "T" sprawled across their chest, Lee's Summit West went out hard with the early pace.  Their compression would be key, running in three groups of connected runner.  The top group would find themselves among the leaders, pushing for the win.  The next three found themselves in the mid-pack, keeping their scoring numbers low.  The next two were squarely mid-pack. Lee's 6th and 7th runners were the best in the field, both displacing Liverpool's fifth runner.  It would be the key to success, as Lee would capture the crown amongst a loaded field.

Liverpool would take second for the 2nd year in a row.  While the outcome may not have been what they were looking for, there is plenty to be happy with.  Their top 4 runners all improved to their Season Best marks.  They also were well under the other NY Squads, among which Shenendehowa was much closer the last time they faced off.  Liverpool remains the Top School in New York State, with only one position to improve to make them a podium contender come NXN.

West Springfield also put on a great performance in third, with a strong compression right in the hunt.  The  VA team represented well, with a 35-second mark.  Niskayuna also got in front of Shen, which should make for an interesting Class A race in Section 2 for Sectionals.
