Regis's Maximilian Bradley placed 17th to lead Regis to a 4th place finish in the CHSAA last year.
Last Year's Summary: 26th in Federation, 4th in CHSAA, 3rd in NY-BQ CHSAA CHSAA Titles: CHSAA Individual Winners:
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
In 2017 Regis finished 4th in the CHSAA, the Raiders' first top-4 finish in 16 years, and a big jump from recent years' results. Regis lost three of its top 5 to graduation, but top-25 juniors Maximilian Bradley and James Molz are back along with George Bednar and Luke Ellwood, and the Raiders have enough youth on the team to keep their run among the top 5 teams of the CHSAA going for this year and next.
Archbishop Molloy | Stanners
Section: NY-BQ CHSAA | Class: A | Colors: Marine blue and white |
Archbishop Molloy's James Loeffel (583) placed 14th to lead the Stanners in the 2017 CHSAA championship.
Last Year's Summary: 11th in CHSAA, 4th in NY-BQ CHSAA CHSAA Titles: 1962, 1963, 1964, 1972, 1975 CHSAA Individual Winners: Jim McDermott (1962), Phil Hemery (1988), William Vespe (1991), Dan McGrath (1999)
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Archbishop Molloy finished back in 11th in the CHSAA in 2017, but it has the one key piece for success this year, an intact returning top 5. Senior James Loeffel is the frontrunner with a 14th place finish in the CHSAA last year, but Demir Degirmenci and John Ostling chip in to give the Stanners a highly rated top trio. With a little bit of development at the back, Molloy should move up this year.
St. John the Baptist | Cougars
Section: NSCHSAA | Class: A | Colors: Red and white |
St. John the Baptist's Patrick Fiorillo placed 40th last year and is the top returning Cougar from the 2017 CHSAA championship.
Last Year's Summary: 8th in CHSAA, 3rd in NSCHSAA CHSAA Titles: CHSAA Individual Winners: Lloyd Gellineau (1980)
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Cougars tumbled way back last year for a variety of reasons, and they finished 8th in the CHSAA in 2017, one year after beating St. Anthony's for the NSCHSAA title. The top four guys entering last season are gone, and the Cougars begin 2018 rated 8th in the CHSAA. The bright side for St. John the Baptist is that the top three returning guys are all juniors, so if Patrick Fiorillo, Johnny O'Connell, and Brian Healy can lead a big rebuilding effort this year, the dividends may come in 2019 in their senior year.
St. Joseph by the Sea | Vikings
Section: NY-BQ CHSAA | Class: A | Colors: Gray and white |
St. Joseph by the Sea's Michael Kieran finished 29th in his senior season to lead the Vikings at last year's CHSAA championship.
Last Year's Summary: 12th in CHSAA, 6th in NY-BQ CHSAA CHSAA Titles: CHSAA Individual Winners:
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Vikings' top guy at last year's CHSAA championship Michael Kieran is gone, and the team finished back in 12th. The good news however is that the rest of the 2017 varsity is back, and they should provide the Vikings with enough strength to move back into the top 10 this year. Senior Steven Anzalone leads a team that is heavy in seniors, so the Vikings will need to recruit some younger guys.
St. Peter's | Eagles | |||
Section: NY-BQ CHSAA | Class: A | Colors: Blue and gold |
St. Peter's Ryan Tierney followed up win in 2016 with a 3rd place in last year's CHSAA championship.
Last Year's Summary: 14th in Federation, 3rd in CHSAA, 2nd in NY-BQ CHSAA CHSAA Titles: CHSAA Individual Winners: Rolando Ortiz (1998), Ryan Tierney (2016)
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This Year's Outlook | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Eagles' top trio of Ryan Tierney, Dom Boccia, and Marc Carrera are graduated from last year's 3rd place squad, and that is a massive void to fill. The rebuilding effort begins with junior Michael Politi who was at least in the top 50 of the CHSAA last year, but St. Peter's will need a big recruitment campaign to remain in the top 5 of the CHSAA this year.
