NEW YORK – Hempstead senior Donna-Lee Hylton raised her hands in a combination of triumph and exhaustion at the end of the 400 meters. There’s more than one big star at Hempstead. Hylton won the invitational 400 at the NY Relays in 54.56 at Ichan Stadium on Randalls Island, the eighth-fastest time in the United States this season.

NEW YORK – They made mistakes. They can be better. But as far as making statements go, when Medgar Evers crossed the finish line they made it clear: they’ll be a contender for a national championship in the 4x100 relay this season.

NEW YORK – Domenick DeMatteo already started to pull away with two laps left. But the strain on the Half Hollow Hills West senior’s face told that he had more on the agenda. “Don’t worry about winning the race,” assistant coach Tom Finn shouted in his direction. “You’re too slow.”

Alysha Cook won four events in Ship, Fawn Miller and Tori Paterra now own US #'s 2 and 3 in the javelin with monster throws of 144-10 and 143-01. And Chloe Schmidt went 2:12.22 PA1 800 and anchored the winning 4x400.
