Girls Class A Individuals
State of the Action: As we mentioned in our preview writeup, this race had the potential to repeat the play-by-play of the 2015 State race at Monroe-Woodbury. And for much of the race, that was true. Saratoga's Emily Bush began with a relentless pace, making the race at the front for the first mile. Karrie Baloga went right with her to match the lead, as did Emily Toth-Ratazzi. Behind the trio was a sea of Saratoga and green jersey's, a mix of the raging team battle and some precocious freshman.
At one mile, the race was strung out, Bush leading a string of six athletes all in pursuit. Slowly but surely, Izzie Sullivan began to move up the pack, sensing the opportunity on the hills. At two miles, the lead was three across (Bush-Baloga-Sullivan), with the pace too strong for the pack to compete. By 2 and a half, Sullivan took the lead, for the final time. Pushing through the lowlands, and up the final hill, the freshman wouldn't be caught.
Her time now stands as #6 All-Time on the Course, just behind Nicole Blood, on the muddiest of all the State Meet's held at the venue.
