State of the Action: You can call it déjà vu.
Just like in Plattsburgh in 2019, it was 100m from the line, and Colton Kempney was dead even with a runner from downstate. Twice before, he had finished in 2nd place at States, with a Junior year chance removed by COVID. But this time, it would be different.
Kempney had his work cut out for him. Adam Furman and the senior ran side-to-side for two miles, before Furman made a break for it. But at 800m to go, Kempney knew it was his last shot at a Title before moving on to College. From 50m back, he began to close, easing back to the leader before the final turn, where it broke even. A final sprint towards the finish would grab him the gold, solidifying Furman as the favorite for next year.
