Eight New Names To Know From Spring Track 2021

Boys #2 - Evan Waterton (Monticello)

Grade: Junior

Highlight Performance: 4:16.20 for NY #2 in the 1600m

Pre-COVID - Evan Waterton has been an athlete on the rise, and one most likely helped concealed by the COVID shutdown. As a sophomore, he qualified for the XC State Meet, placing 17th overall in Class B, with a solid speed rating of 176. He went on indoors of 2020 to drop his personal best just under 10mins for the 3200m, but really focused on the 1600m, clocking a best of 4:30.99, but finishing third at the State Qualifier.

Now - One year later, and Wateron has taken a jump. His speed has improved, clocking 52.0 for 400m. That's translated over to the mile, running 4:23 for the full distance at Loucks, and then coming back in the 1600m and dropping that down to 4:16.20. However, it's not all about the mid-distance. Trying his hand at the Steeple, he clocked a State Leader there too, hitting 9:35.09 for the full distance. That means a 3200m breakthrough is probably on the horizon.
