2019 Summer Training Blog: Tully's Brooke Rauber Week 6 & 7

Week 6 (August 18th - 24th)

Sunday August 18th - 3 mile run at my house (I put this in last week)

Monday August 19th - Today was our first official day of practice. We met at a neat little park named Little York Park that has tons of trails and no major hills. I ran 4 x 1 mile at tempo pace. The issue was I forgot my watch so my tempo effort turned into interval effort. Lesson learned, don't forget to charge your watch.

  • Little York Park 4 x mile @ tempo, 4 x 200 rep
  • total 6 miles of running and 4 hours of goat clipping

Tuesday August 20th - We all knew what was coming today... Hill sprints up the side of a mountain. To top it off though our easy run before hand turned into 4 miles easy, then we had to push the last 2 miles on the trail that seems to go uphill in both directions. My legs were mad at me already now they were screaming. Welcome to the season!

  • Labrador Pond - 6 mile run, 10 x 30 sec. Hill sprints

Wednesday August 21st - Today was the day we were moving goats into the State Fair, so I was up too early for my liking. Coach mom finished loading the couple of goats I was going to show (15 of them) into the trailer and I took off down the road to get my run in before people were even thinking about getting out of bed. It was rough because as everyone knows I love to get my sleep so this was not cutting it.

  • 8 miles in the rain- 6 AM

Thursday August 22nd - We spent our first night in the dorms at the state fair and let me just say it is always interesting. My friends always save us a place kind of out of the way of the 1000 other people sleeping there. I get so tired from being on my feet that I am delirious and my humor gets better than ever and we laugh until we cry. We are up at 5:30 AM (not my favorite time of day at all) to milk goats and get them fed before we head off to Tully to practice. It is a rough few days! I met my team in Tully and we did a nice and controlled 6 mile run on our course and in town. We finished it off with 4 x 200 and some downhill running practice.

  • 6 easy miles

Friday August 23rd - It is a tradition to do a 2 mile time trial on our home course the first Friday of the season. It is something we all dread because it is the first time our fitness level is really being tested. Coach Mom told me to just run tempo pace since I was like a walking zombie from lack of sleep. I decided that it was only 2 miles so why not go for it. Surprisingly, I felt pretty good and ran a 30 second PR, I guess all my summer miles and trips to camps is paying off. My teammates also had really good runs. Hey maybe we are going to be pretty good after all.

  • 6 miles total

Saturday August 24th  - Today is showmanship for goats, so I needed to get my run done. Togo is counting on me to make her look awesome, or is it I am counting on Togo to make me look awesome? That's not important. Anyway, the team met us in Liverpool for a long run. One of the guys from the fair is going to run a ½ marathon, so he decided to come and run with us. Of course he took off at sub 7 min pace, and my teammates wanted to throw him in the lake. It wasn't long before he was feeling it and decided to let me control the pace, rookie move. Hey Will, if I don't see you before your ½ marathon in October good luck.
