2019 Summer Training Blog: Tully's Brooke Rauber Week 6 & 7

Week 5 (Aug. 11th - Aug 17th)

Sunday August 11th - First day back from camp and I am up to meet my buddies from Liverpool for a long run. We met on the Erie Canal path for our weekly run. This was my last run with Windsor before she leaves for college so it was pretty emotional at the end of the run. Good luck at Geneseo Windsor I know you will get lost there too!

  • 10 mile run at Erie Canal trail

Monday August 12th - Met my team at Heiberg Forest for a nice easy run. Tonight Coach Mom let us pick our own groups and run wherever we wanted for 6 miles, she said the only condition was that no one was to get lost. We ran all over the forest and believe it or not, no one got lost. I felt much better today, legs are coming around and my team is looking good. The best part of today is we went to Harold's gym and got to lift. I'm not sure if it's just me but I lift one rep and feel like a bodybuilder.

  • 6 mile run at Heiberg Forest, lifting at night

Tuesday August 13th - I ran with my team here again. It was raining so hard, but my cousin took my rain coat to run in. We got back and he gave me back my coat which smelled like a wet dog and dirty socks mixed together. Other than this it was a nice run.

  • 6 mile run at Highland Forest

Wednesday August 14th - I was going to go and run at Green Lakes, but I was totally exhausted and I need some sleep. I decided to try a different run so I started downhill (we live at the top of a hill) and thought I would bring the nature trail back. That was a mistake because the nature trail is all uphill for a  mile it was terrible. Later that day Coach Mom and I traveled to South Lewis to meet our friends, the Bernards', and head to Plattsburgh to see the state meet course.

  • 5 mile run at my house

Thursday August 15th - Coach Mom and Coach Bernard had their annual state meeting so they handed Lexi, Brynn and myself a map of the course and said go get it. We took off all excited and were back knocking on the window to get Coach Mom's attention because we couldn't find the course. Definitely not my best moment. Mom said look at your GPS, duh and we were off. The course is really flat and fast, not my favorite but I will deal with it . I am sure when November rolls around it will be a much different course. It will turn into my kind of course: muddy. Brynn had never run 7 miles so she wasn't very happy with me.

  • 7 mile run at Plattsburgh and 4 x 200 rep

Friday August 16th - So we get home late and Coach Mom has practice at 7:30 AM, she has not figured out that I like to sleep in!! We met at Labrador Pond to try a tempo run on the boardwalk. It was more like ice skating than running. The boardwalk was so slippery that we were counting the number of diggers the team was taking. I ran 7 repeats and felt really good besides almost falling a million times. As soon as we got home we jumped back in the car to head to Niagara Falls with our friends.

  • Tempo 1000's at Lab Pond on the Boardwalk ( 5 miles)

Saturday August 17thWe saw so much today we went on the Horn Blower and got to see the falls up close. We also got to go behind the falls, which was my favorite thing we did. By the end of the day my legs felt like they were going to fall off. I decided to play it safe and just run on the treadmill for 5 miles. Running on the treadmill isn't my favorite but was better than the alternative of not running at all.

  • 5 mile run on the treadmill in Niagara Falls

Sunday August 18th - Today is usually my long run day, but we never got home from Niagara Falls until 8:00 PM because we were walking around and go kart racing (not to flex or anything but I won). I decided to just do 3 miles on my road out and back to beat the dark. My dad rode the bike with me because it was getting dark. We ran with some random Doberman from on our road. I asked Dad if we could adopt him and he said no, but it's fine, it's fine.

  • 3 mile run at my house

Weekly Mileage: 47 Miles -Got in some good mileage because next week I am going to be at the New York State Fair. If anyone is going, feel free to pop in and say hi at the goat barn.
