Early Tuesday Top Ten - Records Revisited

MileSplit NY - It's been a huge weekend, and we'll have our full meet recap for you out tomorrow, complete with photos, interviews, results, everything.  In the meantime, lets look back at the season that just ended, see how many of our State Records we predicted may go down actually did.

Want the answer?  Well, ten went down, but only 1 of them we predicted.  Back then, we didn't know which events Mary Cain would run in, or how fast Sabrina Southerland could truly get.  Check out all the new State Records below, 10 to be exact.  And don't close the books just yet.  There is still one more Indoor meet left, a youth meet at the Armory, which may see some last minute attempts to take down just a few more records.

Overall

1 -  Girls 800m Run - 2:03.59 SABRINA SOUTHERLAND (Benzamin Cardozo) 2013 **(Mar 10, NBIN Nationals, Armory)

The lady from Cardozo was flying this weekend.  She gave glimpses of greatness when she split a 2:06 in her SMR, but blasted away on the final lap to take US #2 All-Time.

2 -  Girls 300m Dash - 37.54 KADECIA BAIRD (Medgar Evers) 2013 **(Feb 2, New Balance Col, Armory)

No one could doubt this young lady of the city after her monster outdoor season last spring.  She leaves New York Indoors with two state records.

3 - Girls 4x200 - 1:37.29 MEDGAR EVERS (New Balance Nationals, Armory, Mar 10, 2013)

Here is the second of Baird's two records, and the one she thinks to be the most important.  Killer legs and even splits from all the Medger Evers' ladies granted them to break their own state record.

4 -  Girls Mile - 4:28.25 MARY CAIN (Bronxville-unattached) 2013 ** (Feb 16, Millrose Games, Armory)

Mary Cain shattered many of the distance records of the day, including the 1500m en route (4:11.72), taking the State records the same as the National Records.

5 - Girls 2 Mile - 9:38.68 MARY CAIN (Bronxville-Unattached) 2013 ** (Feb 2, New Balance Grand Prix, Boston)

Another record for Cain, as she went flying in Boston to take the title away from Melody Fairchild.  Again, she got another record en route, going 9:04.51 for 3000m, on the way to the State Record.

Class

6 - Sophmore Girls 3000m Run - 9:33.9 BELLA BURDA (Arlington) 2013 (Feb 10, Sec 1 Class AA, Armory)

Here is one that you should be watching, as she ran away with the state title, after taking the state record earlier in the year.

7 - Boys Sophmore 300m Dash -  34.38 IZAIAH BROWN (Amsterdam) 2013 ** (Mar 2, NY States, Cornell)

He went 47 seconds in the 400m outdoors, yet we all discounted him on the indoor circuit.  He proved that all wrong, winning the state title in state record time.

8 - Girls 8th Grade 800m Run -  2:11.80 KAMRYN McINTOSH (Suffern) 2013 ** (Feb 25, Eastern States, Armory)

There is no doubting the speed on McIntosh, as she followed up this win by anchoring her 4x400 in 55.69 at Nationals.

9 - Boys Junior 55m Hurdles -  7.31 JAY HEBERT (Ticonderoga) 2013 ** (Mar 2, NY States, Cornell)

He lowered the state mark by .01 in a huge PR at the state meet, then went on to set a new Junior State Record in the 60m Hurdles (8.0) at Nationals.

10 - Girls Senior 1000m Run - 2:47.44 SABRINA SOUTHERLAND (Benjamin Cardozo) 2013 ** (Feb 1, New Balance Col, Armory)

This one is tricky,  Mary Cain holds the Overall State Record at 2:47.44, but Sabrina grabbed the class record at the Collegiate.
