State of the Action: The 1000m has big names of it's own, but none so clear of the pack as to warrant the 'favorite' moniker. Zariel Macchia (Floyd) is the top athlete in the seeds, and was the top athlete in XC, but she only has a two second gap on the field, and will need to exert a very strong effort in the 3000m, which is a more natural fit to her XC strength. The 1k is only an hour later, and athletes like Laina Friedmann (Smithtown West) and Katelyn Kliesch (Notre Dame Academy) are coming in fresh. We think it'll take sub-2:50 to take the crown, and plenty of athletes are capable here. | |||||
