College counseling at The Armory began yesterday when several athletes from Campus Magnet high school in Queens visited the center to be advised regarding their NCAA Eligibility guidelines. The Armory College Preparation Program is a service provided by The Armory which helps students gain admission to college and receive financial aid to help fund their education. The program consists of college counseling, SAT instruction, college readiness seminars, and individual subject tutoring, at no cost to the students. Dominique Thomas of Campus Magnet (pictured above) has a personal best of 2:19.2 in the 800 meters and would like improve her time to 2:15.0 by the end of next season in hopes of obtaining a track scholarship to college. The senior is currently considering applying to Temple University, Delaware State University and The University of New Hampshire.
Pictured below, Natasha Carr (left) currently has the highest cumulative GPA at her school, Humanities and Arts High School, on the Campus Magnet campus. She has a goal of graduating as the valedictorian of her class and would like to attend Columbia, NYU or Marist. Devon Duncan (right) has personal bests of 14.87 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles and 56.10 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles. He would like to attend a college with a good academic program as well as a good sprint and hurdles program.
