The Great State Meet Preview: Indoors 2019

Girls 3000m

Event Info: 2018 Winner: Kelsey Chmiel (Saratoga) 9:27.88, State Record: 9:01.81 Meet Record: 9:26.28

State of the Action:  As we mentioned in the 1500m recap, Katelyn Tuohy could be putting this race on cruise control, and focusing for the 1500m.  The irony is, this may be the more competitive race, even without Chmiel. If Tuohy commits to a strong pace, she'll blow past the previous meet record unchallenged.  But the field is strong here behind, maybe moreso than any year before.  Brooke Rauber (Tully), Claire Walters (FM), and Jenna Schulz (Liverpool) all know eachother well from in-season racing, and three can dip under 9:30 if needed.  Sarah Connelly (Mt. Sinai) is the other from out-of-section, and has run 9:47.38, equal to Shulzs' best.  That means her too, could be a contender for sub-9:30.  The pace of the race will be dictated by Tuohy here, but bring it down to a kick, and it could be anyone's race to win.
