Summary:  Last year Stuyvesant and its frontrunner Kivan Tavangar captured the PSAL team and individual championship. In 2017 it is Brooklyn Tech and its top guy Evan Sherman who are seeking to pull off the double. The Engineers captured the Brooklyn PSAL Boro championship even though Midwood placed three runners in the top 5, and the team's top level strength of Sherman, Robert Straight, and Isaac Stamper and 1-5 balance make it the favorite to capture Brooklyn Tech's first title since 2014.

If there is any team that can stop Brooklyn Tech, it will likely be Staten Island Boro champ Susan Wagner. The Falcons have frontrunner William Cuthbertson as a contender for the individual title and also solid 1-6 depth. Two other teams that are running a little ways back are Midwood behind a strong top 3 of Ermiyas Harper, Tobias Belber Tiberghi, and Demian Lofnes-Scott, and a Bronx Science squad that is compact enough to punch well above its running weight. Two-times reigning champ Stuyvesant is young and developing and should contend for a top 5 spot.

The top returning guy from last year is Oadhan Lynch of McKee Tech who used a late charge to move up hugley in the final straightaway last year, but he is not among the top 30 rated runners this season. Brooklyn Tech's Sherman will be the favorite with teammate Straight not far behind. Frontrunners from four other teams should also be at the front, including Jack Craven of the Beacon School, Midwood's Harper, Wagner's Cuthbertson, and Riverdale Kingsbridge's Jacob Ireland.

The score for the merged results of the PSAL Boro championships is probably pretty close to what a speed ratings virtual score would show for the relative positions of the teams, the latter being a difficult thing to compute for the huge number of PSAL teams, some of which did not qualify for the Team race and will have runners instead in the Individual race. Some teams like Susan Wagner did not run at their usual pace at the meet though, so expect the score to tighten up significantly when all the marbles are on the line on Saturday. Scores for all the teams should be lower with only about 20 teams in the race instead of the 61 in the Boro's meet. The top 8 team places in the Boro merge were:

1. Brooklyn Tech 61,  2. Susan Wagner 122,  3. Bronx Science 172,  4. Midwood 189,  5. Stuyvesant 217,  6. Bayside 235,  7. McKee Tech 253,  8. Francis Lewis 284
