War of the States, or the Empire State Strikes Back

Look 1: Who Won at Boys Indoor Nationals?

At the Armory back in March, the boys from Jersey dominated with 111 points thanks to wins in four relays, as East Orange won the 4x400 and 4x55 Shuttle Hurdles, Egg Harbor took the 4x800, and CBA-Lincroft won the 4xMile. That strength at the top was enough to keep NJ well clear of Pennsylvania in 2nd with 97 points, led by the distance medley relay win of Noah and Sam Affolder's Carlisle team, a 1st in the shot put from Jordan Geist along with a 2nd in the weight throw, and a 1-2-3 finish in the pentathlon led by Kyle Garland.

None of the rest of the states were that close to the top two, as 3rd place Texas was back at 59 points led by 60 meter champ Caleb Jolivette. 4th place Virginia had wins from Western Branch in the 4x200 relay and Garry Williams in the triple jump, but the Old Dominion guys weren't racking up the points the way they did at NBNI in recent years. Another state whose guys had a very off year at the Armory was 7th place New York at 33 points with 3rds by Dan Claxton in the high jump, Archbishop Molloy in the shuttle hurdles, and Xavier in the 4x800 being the best showings.

With New Jersey guys running 78 points ahead of the New York guys, the NY girls really needed to put the pedal to the medal in their half of the contest for the Empire State to hold on to any imperial ambitions.
