This Year's Outlook
Ithaca is a bit of a surprise as the team with the top returning-runner TR average, as it finished 12th at NXN-NY, but its top 5 TR-rated runners are back from last year's 12th ranked Class A team, something no other elite team can boast about. Jake Avery returns as the Little Red's frontrunner after taking a States medal last year, and the following foursome of Neil Kolhatkar, Silas Derfel, Ian Tomasik, and Cole Eelis finished in the top-20 in the 4-A sectionals, with Kolhatkar and Derfel also getting great States experience. This will be the big year for Ithaca with its senior-heavy lineup, so the guys will need a big effort to unseat reigning S4-A champ Corning that is rated close behind at the start of the season.

This Year's Outlook
A season that finished with a trip to Portland for the NXN would not usually be described as a down year for most teams, but after an NXN National title in 2014, last year's runner-up position to Liverpool was not what the Hornets were hoping for. This year despite the usual big losses of seniors, FM starts as one of the top two teams in NY with the potential to quickly go to #1 in the rankings if some higher level performance can be found in the 5-6 positions. Last year's nemesis Liverpool has a top-5 team back with the same back-end concerns as the Hornets, so the battle for S3-A should again be a heated one that as usual depends on the development of a group of younger runners behind States medalist Patrick Perry and S3-A top-20 guys Joe Walters, Ben Otis, and Jack Boltman.

This Year's Outlook
The Wildcats' prospects took a huge leap recently when freshman phenom Behailu Bekele-Arcuri moved to Warwick and instantly gave the team a guy who has already proven he can run up among the best in the state as he returns as the 10th highest rated Class A runner. Now even with the loss of last year's top 2 of Matt Adolph and Blake Dellabough, the Wildcats look set for a comfortable road in the S9-A and then a bid for team's first States crown in nine years. Dan Lindstrom, Thomas Gardiner, and Thomas and Jason Nafash are all back with States experience, making the Wildcats a solid contender for a big postseason.

This Year's Outlook
Corning ran to its best ever finish in a States A race last year, and the Hawks again begin this year as one of the top 4 rated teams in Class A. The big difference though is that they likely will be chasing another S4-A team, Ithaca, at the beginning of this season after the loss of Peter Kane and Brian Bates from last year's squad. Senior Kevin Moshier returns as the presumed frontrunner to replace Kane, but sophomore Bryce Derick seems set to continue a fast rise through the ranks after finishing 38th at States as a freshman. The Hawks have won two sectional titles in a row, and strong development from a promising group of sophomores could keep them on the right track.

This Year's Outlook
On the plus side of Liverpool's great year, the Warriors finally broke through the Fayetteville-Manlius wall to win sectional, state, and NXN-NY titles and became only the second NY boys' team to take back-to-back top-10 finishes at NXN Nationals, and Ben Petrella had just a fantastic year as he captured 1st in the McQuaid AAA, sectionals, at States, and in the NXN-NY. On the less bright side, Liverpool slipped back 6 spots at Nationals, and Petrella was among four of the top 6 from varsity who graduated. Returning however is the second best top 2 in the state with Ty Brownlow and Stevie Schulz sporting top 10 places from States, and Gabe Albert gives the Warriors a trio of seniors with state championship experience. Last year's squad was not that deep though, and the 2016 team will be needing a big development cycle to shore up the back of the roster.
