IMPORTANT NOTE about JV Races for Boys teams coaches:
In 2019, coaches voted in a proposal to change the JV races.
ALL teams MUST enter their top 7 runners (or all of their runners if the team does not have 7) in either the Varsity A (team avg under 15:30) or Varsity B (over 15:30 team avg but can opt into Vars A).
Teams' JV runners can be placed in ANY of 3 races based on ability/goals. Ateam does not need to enter runners in the JV championship to run in any other races.
JV Championship: 7 runners max. For teams looking to have their 8-14 runners compete for the team title OR for individual JV runners that can or hope to run under 15:30.
JV "Sub 17:00" Race: For any runners that have or can reasonably break 17:00 for the VCP 2.5 mile course. No limit nor minimum entry.
JV "17:00+ Race: For any runners that have not nor cannot reasonably break 17:00 for the VCP 2.5 mile course. No limit nor minimum entry.
One question might be: Where should I enter my Freshmen that have not raced the 2.5 mile distance yet? Analysis of the last five years Freshmen that raced at both Frosh and Varsity Intersectionals yields these guidelines:
Sub 9:15 should enter the JV Championship Race (sub 15:30)
Sub 10:15 should enter the JV sub 17 Race
Over 10:15 should enter the JV 17+ Race
Use your discretion for borderline runners, but please take care not to abuse the spirit of the rule change, which is meant to give JV runners the best races and most appropriate competition.
Thanks and good luck!
