The Final k: STATES: A little twilight zone to the Boyertown back-to-back in AAA Nov 08, 2007

Nov 3: A little twilight zone to the Boyertown back-to-back  in AAA | Central Cambria won a title. But they took home so much more. | Coatesville doen't rebuild. They reload. | Cross country rings true in Wellsboro. | Experienced coach, expert spotters, and soccer lead North East to 9th state title. Oct 27: PODCASTS: Wellsboro and Shikellamy surprised and Lewisburg delivered in D4. Dallas' boys competed well in D2. Liberty swept individual titles and advanced two teams to states, Emmaus was Emmaus in D11. Henderson's Chris Aldrich and Carly Hamond caputured individual crowns and St. Basil held off Christopher Dock in D1. Oct 20: Winning streaks were preserved at the big Tri-State Coaches Association meet on October 28th at Cooper's Lake in Slippery Rock. Baldwin senior David Adley won his 6th invitational of the season, while Latrobe junior Natalie Bower captured her third straight Tri-States. Video interviews with both chams. Oct 13: Three videos, including the post- Manhattan interviews with Central Cambria's Carly Seymour, who set the 2.5 mile Van Cortlandt Park record of 13:56; her coach, Randy Wilson; and North Penn coach Ron Jaros after his boys' team ran the best team average of the day, 12:57.1, which happens to be the 2nd best of all time. Oct 6: There is something different this year about Vince McNally. He's hungrier than ever. Most of last year's U.S. champs are in college. But Coatesville is still Coatesville. Winners. (Posted Wednesday AM. Coming Thurs: McNally's plan). If running is mental, then confidence is currency. Just ask Heather Giovagnoli. Sept 29: Ignore North Penn at your own risk this year. A track power excels at cross, too. And it's good to get your #1 runners back. Just ask Unionville & Cardinal O'Hara. Sept 22: Holy Ghost Prep is a very small AAA school. And Central Cambria, Lewisburg and North East are AA. All four are using the pack to attack their large school competition, and winning. Plus, North East coach Ted Miller is going for his ninth state tltle. Sept 15: Carly Seymour is more fit, more rested and more confident than last year when she was 9th at Foot Lockers. But her team is right with her with big goals. Germantown Friends made some noise on the national scene with a near upset of the U.S. #1 team. They are both little schools with some big talent. Sept 8: Kara Millhouse breakthrough – Cumberland Valley is back – Chanelle Price uses cross for the 800 (but she has goals this season too) – Podcast interview with Vince McNally. Sept 1: Baldwin distance stars David Adley and T.J. Hobart – Meghan Lutz of Nazareth Academy – Mark Dennin of Boyertown.

Seymour gets Vanny CR 13:55.7 | N. Penn top team avg. 12:57.1. Oct 13, 2007

Carly Seymour entered this season intent on returning to the Footlocker Nationals, and after her impressive run this weekend she just may be a favorite to win it all.  Seymour beat 3 returning Footlocker Finalists en route to her course record run of 13:55.7 on the 2.5 mile layout.  The previous course record was 13:57 by Nicole Blood, Saratoga Springs. In the boys Varsity B race North Penn took home the win with 44 points.  They also achieved the fastest team average of all the races with a 12:57.1.

Dorrell 2nd fastest at VCP-12:20, close 2nd\'s behind NE powers for VA boys Oct 13, 2007

Quick highlights from Manhattan of the Virginians: Peter Dorrell (pictured above by Don Rich of https://pa.milesplit.com)posted the second fastest time of the day at Van Cortland Park with a sensational time of 12:20 in the Varsity F race to finish ten seconds off the all-time record. However, he ended up finishing second in his race to Brian Leung of New Jersey, who had the day's best at 12:18. Dorrell, who was unable to preview the back section of the course, allowed Leung to build a 12 second lead on him at one point. The Blacksburg senior closed the gap with a strong finish, but not enough to come away with the fastest time of the meet. The story of the meet was respectable second place finishes for the Virginia boys teams against the best  that the Northeast has to offer. The Oakton boys with 71 points finished only 15 points behind the #1 ranked team in the country (according to Marc Bloom's Super Harrier 25) in Danbury of Connecticut with 56 points in the Varsity B division. Meanwhile, the Midlothian boys happened to be in the same race with the team which ended up with the fastest team average of the meet in Pennsylvania's North Penn at 12:54.5 as the Northeast ranked North Penn squad beat the Southeast ranked Midlo boys 44 to 98. Jason Witt finished second individually in the race to lead Midlothian. Thomas Jefferson boys were also second to a top ranked team in the Varsity C race with only 17 points separating them from a Harrier US #20 Queensbury of New York squad and tying them with a team average of 13:14 through five. Brentsville also hung tough in third in the Varsity E division behind the Harrier US #10 Germantown Friends of Pennyslvania and strong team fron Canada in Thousand Islands. Comparing the VA teams:Oakton (13:01.8 Team Average) - 2nd to Harrier US #1 Danbury CTMidlothian (13:04.2 Team Average) - 2nd to DyeStat NE #4 North Penn PAThomas Jefferson (13:14.2 Team Average) - 2nd to Harrier US #20 Queensbury NYBrentsville (13:25.6 Team Averge) - 3rd to Harrier US #10 Germantown Friends PA & Canada's Thousand Islands It was less positive news out of the Eastern States Girls championship race with the three Virginian squads in the loaded field with Midlothian, Blacksburg, and Brentsville. The US Harrier #2 Midlothian girls, who already had been missing their #2 runner in Leia Lautzenheiser all fall due to injury, had to also sit out their #3 in Paige Johnston as the absence of two of their top three returning runners was too much for the Lady Trojans to overcome as the 2006 Manhattan champs were pushed all the way back to tenth place with 306 points. The Blacksburg girls also pull out one of their top runners last second in #2 Allison Homer as they finished in the middle of the pack in the 31 team field with 414 points for 15th place. The Brentsville girls had a respectable run giving their lower expectations compared to Midlothian and Brentsville coming in with an 18th place team showing with 441 points. The lone bright spot in the race was an eighth place run by Midlothian sophomore Kathleen Lautzenheiser to crack into the loaded top 10.However, it was the Oakton girls who ended up as the only Virginian squad to come away with a first place finish out of Manhattan in the varsity B division as they finished well ahead of second place by 74 points with a team score of 66. Oakton five finishers in the top 22 with Becca Kassabian (3rd, 15:25), Haillie Eilerts (8th, 15:52), Cindy Adams (16th, 16:06), Jenna Cahill (17th, 16:09), and Becky Galbo (22nd, 16:21). Manhattan College Invitational ResultsManhattan Invitational Photo Gallery of Virginians - More photos to be added from various photographers Manhattan Videos: Eastern States Girls (Midlothian, Blacksburg, Brentsville) - Varsity F Boys (Peter Dorrell, Blacksburg) - Varsity D Boys (Midlothian)

Manhattan Invitational - US #8 Doug Smith Beats US #4 Brandon Jarrett Oct 13, 2007

Two US ranked boys runners took to the fields at the Manhattan Invitational.  US #4 Brandon Jarrett (Sr., St. Benedict's, NJ) and US #8 Doug Smith (Jr., Gill-St. Bernard's, NJ) toed the line, and ran stride for stride for much of the first half in the race.  However, Jarrett dropped out, and Smith went on to win easily over the 2.5 mile course.  More to come on the Manhattan Invitational.  Keep checking back.

Manhattan Invitational Preview - VA Boys Oct 12, 2007

Reputation and pride is on the line this weekend for Virginia as well as the entire Southeast region that top ranked boys teams from Virginia represent in this weekend's Manhattan Invitational. The Southeast boys were exposed at Maymont two weeks ago when an unranked team from the Midwest in Medina of Ohio walked into Richmond and defeated the top teams in the Southeast and Virginia. With the top four ranked teams in Virginia headed to Van Cortland Park this weekend, an opportunity of redemption is there with Oakton, Midlothian, Brentsville, and Thomas Jefferson all racing at Vanny. Meanwhile, as all the buzz is circulating around New Jersey's top two runners in Doug Smith and Brandon Jarrett going head-to-head in the Varsity A race, Virginians know full well that the Northeast experts will be quite surprised with the times that Peter Dorrell and Jason Witt can put up in separate races later in the day.

Manhattan Invitational Preview - VA Girls Oct 12, 2007

In recent history, the Manhattan Invitational has never had such importance to Virginia high school cross country than the 35th annual edition of the event will have this weekend. Many of Virginia's best teams and individuals circled the the largest one day high school cross country meet in the country on their calendar. The Midlothian girls obviously know how big of a deal this meet is as last year's shocking win in the Eastern States Championship catipulted them into becoming a nationally recognized program and more importantly helped them an eventual Nike Team Nationals berth. There are regional meets to determine the NTN teams this year, but Midlothian and the other top Virginia squads who will be racing there at Van Cortland Park's 2.5 mile course this weekend are not there to see how they stack up within the state. They could very well do that at an in-state invitational this weekend. No these teams are traveling to New York City to see if they can run with some of the best teams in the country and if Nike Team Nationals is an attainable dream.

10/13 Weekend Coverage: All eyes on the 2.5 at Vanny Oct 11, 2007

Can they pull off the impossible again???  The Manhattan Invitational will keep all eyes in Virginia to the north to see how some of Virginia's best teams and individuals fair against the best high school running one can find on the entire East Coast. The Midlothian girls are going back to Van Cortland Park to defend their Eastern States title from a year ago with Blacksburg and Brentsville girls joining them in the race. The top four ranked boys teams in Virginia will also be at Manhattan as well spread out among the different varsity divisions with #1 Oakton, #2 Midlothian, #3 Brentsville, and #4 Blacksburg. Individually look for Peter Dorrell and Jason Witt to run for wins and try to post the fastest times of the day on Vanny's historic 2.5 mile course. Our MileSplit US affiliates in New York and Pennsylvania will be helping to provide coverage of the meet with photos, video, and updates.Meanwhile, plenty of meets to cover just within Virginia as four major invitationals will occur this Saturday in the Albemarle Invitational, Glory Days Grill Invitational, Lee-Davis Subvarsity Invitational, and Runnin With The Wolves Invitational.
