Midlothian girls pulled off the big shocker in winning the Eastern States Championship race at Manhattan Invitational against the nation\'s best teams including US #1 and defending Nike Team Nationals champions Hilton of New York. WIth 148 points, Coach Stan Morgan\'s Lady Trojans finished ahead of not only Hilton but SE #1 Eleanor Roosevelt of Maryland (2nd, 172 pts), NE #3 Saratoga Springs of New York (3rd, 190 pts), and Hilton (4th, 203 pts). It was also a great day for the Southeast region with three of the top five finising teams against some of the best team\'s in the nation and Northeast region with Midlothian, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Tatnall of Delaware (5th, 229) giving the region great legitimacy for an at-large berth for Nike Team Nationals. More to come from Manhattan as well as other meets this weekend in Virginia. Check out the great post-race video interview by Rich Gonzalez on DyeStat.com with the Midlothian coach and girls (WARNING: High school girls screaming loudly may pierce ear drums)
10/14 WEEK #7 SUMMARY: Carly Seymour and Paul Springer run big-time races at the MANHATTAN INVITATIONAL, where Germantown Friends was the top PA boys team. Hatboro-Horsham\'s Dan Hibbs won one of the Varsity races. At the DELCO CHAMPIONSHIPS at Rose Tree Park, the Strath Haven boys won their first-ever team title. Radnor survived a fall from one of their top five to win the girls race comfortably. General McLane swept the team titles at the ROCKY GROVE INV. Even without Katherine Ward, the State College girls defended their home course in the STATE COLLEGE INV, taking five of the top 12 places. The Lions also captured the boys\' race with just 22 points 2-3-4-5 finishes. A little controversy at the WILLIAM TENNENT INV ended with three DQs in the girls varsity race... but there was a positive story in all this. Upper Dublin won both team titles. At Thursday\'s MINGO CLASSIC, Gateway was the team champ for both boys and girls. The Midlothian girls head off to New York City this weekend to compete in the Eastern States Championship division of the Manhattan Invitational that is being billed as one of the greatest high school cross country fields ever assembled with many of the nation\'s top ranked teams on the East Coast in attendance. Currently ranked #3 in the Southeast and previously ranked #11 in the nation earlier in the season, Virginia\'s defending 3A state champions from Midlothian have high hopes of being selected as one of the teams to compete at the Nike Team Nationals in early December. The Midlothian girls will be making the trip without their SE #1 boys as they will be staying home due to conflicts with SAT and being whipped to their homecoming dates at Midlothian High School. The Midlothian girls had to turn down a line of dates, because the only date that matters to them is December 2nd in Portland, Oregon for Nike Team Nationals. Plenty of focus is not only focused on them, but the entire Southeast region as SE #1 Eleanor Roosevelt of Maryland and SE #2 Episcopal of Florida will be competing at Manhattan as well to see if the region can matchup with arguably the toughest region in the nation currently for high school girls\' teams in the Northeast. Automatic and at-large berths will be on the line for both regions based off the outcome of Manhattan.
