Runner's Edge' Harrier of the Week: Katie Lembo and Ryan Manahan

*This week, the meet directors chose to forgo the awarded prizes, and in their place awarded winners with seperate trophies for their accomplisments.

Katie Lembo - Penfield

In our thirdinstallment of the Runner's Edge' Harrier of the Week, it would be our most competitive day at the races so far.  With the title going to the day's fastest runner, many athletes scorched the course.  PA athlete Kennedy Weisner broke the course record earlier in the day, but was ineligible for the prize because of location.  That left a solid pack of five girls vying for the title in the Large Schools Seeded race.  The pack of five was still tight with 600 meters to go, but it would be Penfield junior Katie Lembo to pull away from Week 1 Harrier of the Week Bella Burda in the final stretch, to finish with a time of 16:56.  Lembo had made headlines earlier in the week, by aiding in her coach's (Dave Hennesey) 900th dual meet win.  Before that, she secured an overall win at the GCC Cougar Invite.

Ryan Manahan - Marcellus

For the boys, our third Runner's Edge' Harrier of the Week was taken by senior Ryan Manahan of Marcellus.   Manahan bolted from the line and the competition, to secure his win, doing so in the Medium School Seeded race.  His time was only a half second over the course record, an impressive feat on a typically muddy course.  Manahan's time also beat out Sibby Hanson's finishing time by a half second, who finished second fastest of the day.  Ryan Manahan had an impressive XC season last year, qualifying as an individual for NXN.  His winter campaign was shortened by injury, but he returned in spring as one of the leading milers in the state.  He is currently undefeated in the state of New York this season.
