Runner's Edge' Harrier of the Week: Sibby Hanson and Bella Burda

 

 

Sibby Hanson - Arlington

Our first male Harrier of the Week is the winner of Big Red's Large School Varsity Race.  Sebastion (Sibby) Hanson, 12, of LaGrangeville NY, completed the course at Somers in 16:08, which now stands as the new course record, as well a personal record for the senior.  Taking out the race early, Hanson ran with a clear lead throughout the race.  His time managed to earn him a 182 speed rating, which ranks him as the second highest male in the state so far, across all classes.  In addition, he is the highest ranked Class A athlete, New York States largest classification.

Bella Burda - Arlington

Our first female Harrier of the Week is the winner of Big Red's Large School Varsity Race.  Isabella (Bella) Burda, 10, of LaGrangeville NY, completed the course at Somers in 18:31, which now stands as the new course record, as well a personal record for the sophomore.  Taking out the race early, Hanson ran with a clear lead throughout the race.  His time managed to earn him a 135 speed rating, which ranks her tied for the fourth highest female in the state so far, across all classes.  This is only her second year running the sport of cross country, and looks to improve as the season progresses.

*The above promotion has been approved by both the NCAA and NYSPHSAA, in accordance with eligibility based on amateurism, as defined in their respective bylaws.  The prize package may only be awarded to teams from New York, due to conflicting state mandates regarding awarded prizes.  In the event of a top placing out-of-state athlete, the award will go to the top placing New Yorker in that race.  In addition, the promotion may not be won twice by the same person, and the award will go to the top placing person in the specifically designated race, who had not won the award prior.  All awards have been cleared and approved through the respective meet directors, and are awarded as a prize through their specific event.
