Runner's Edge' Harrier of the Week: Eric Holt and Mary Cain

Eric Holt - Carmel

In our second installment of the Runner's Edge' Harrier of the Week, it would be late entry Eric Holt of Carmel to take the overall prize.  Seeking more competition, Holt's team Carmel chose to run in the varsity I race, with the likes of NJ #3 Don Bosco.  The move proved wise, as the Carmel senior was able to take out fast, while being pushed by Bosco's #1, Kyle Levermore.  In the end, Holt would set the new course record for the not-quite-5k, in 15:26.6.  Holt's time also earned him a tie for the highest speed rating of the season, 189, proving he is one of New York's finest.  Holt is returning to XC after a successful junior year on the track, placing in both the Indoor National and Outdoor National Mile Run.

Mary Cain - Bronxville

For the girls, our second Runner's Edge' Harrier of the Week was taken by junior Mary Cain of Bronxville.  After a long summer campaign abroad, Cain returned to XC last week at Van Cortlandt.  Continuing her winning streak at Warwick, the junior just broke 18 minutes, hitting 17:59.8.  Cain was also a member of the winning overall girls team, scoring 30 points overall.  She would raise her highest speed rating of the year to a 141 with her performance, putting her as the third fastest mark of the season so far.  Cain is coming off a monster Indoor and Outdoor track season, which saw a multitude of National and Class records fall, concluding with her capture of the American Record for the Girls Prep 1500m Run in Barcelona, nabbing a quick 4:11.01
