Breakdown: The premier race operates in a strange middle ground in 2023. The top ranked team in the meet runs earlier in the day, while the top ranked Individual runs after. This provides a stage for the 4-5-6 teams in the State Rankings to duke it out, and try to move away from that challenger status. Expect this race to separate early. You'll have a lead pack of 5 to 6 athletes, then a gap before the team racing begins. The front pack includes the breakout freshman from 2022, Vellekoop, who notched at win at Queensbury the week before. Zugelder and Barlette took 3rd and 4th to the aforementioned racers outside this race, when they competed at the East Aurora Invite last weekend. Sophia Cino comes down South from Canada, having run 4:45 for the 1500m. Lawson won the Bowdoin Park, while Sullivan is an NXN-finalist. Plenty of storylines to find on the line here.
