State Champions Abound At The New York Relays - Full Preview

Girls Events

Girls Sprints

100m - While the Indoor State Champ is still training back in Jamaica after CARIFTA, three of the States Top 5 from Indoor are entered here. Kiera Davis (Hillcrest), Logan Daley (Holy Trinity), and Ashley Fulton (Elmont) all have personal bests under 12-seconds, and it's a wide open race to the finish.

200m - Fulton and Daley are back here, but the wildcard is the addition of 600m State Champ Anissa Moore (Hempstead). Could the speed event prove more difficult than the longer distances, or does Moore pull the upset.

400m - If Moore was on the Outside of the 200m, she's the favorite here. The reigning State Champ in the event will have competition, but she is still favorited. That competition comes from State Leader Victoria Guerrier (West Hempstead), who is coming off CARIFTA herself, running 55.77. It won't be as warm as the Bahamas, but the speed will need to be the same.

100HH - State Champ Jaice Dorsey (Susan Wagner) is back, and looking to improve, a full second ahead of the next best seed.

400H - The field is wide open here, with the top seed coming from Samantha Dow (Nanuet) at 64-seconds.

Girls Distance

800m - It might not be the top end talent of the Boys, but the depth is here. Five girls find themselves at 2:18, all looking for that breakout race to etch their name on the Leaderboard, led by Eva Gonzales of Molloy.

Mile - Freshman Katelyn Kliesch (Notre Dame Academy) just ran a 2:11 PR for the 800m in MD last week, and is looking to bump up the distance. Three other girls are on the cusp of breaking 5mins, likely to do so here, but Kliesch has the lead heading in.

3000m - Three NYC-based girls are right on the border of 10mins, led by Olivia Girand (Bronx Science).

Steeple - Girand is right back at it in the Steeple, looking for the 7min barrier here.

Girls Field

Vertical Jumps - Section 9 is looking to well represent, as Lily Beattie (Warwick) and Rachel Venter (Warwick) will battle Indoor State Champ Ella Galloway (Pine Bush) for that big plaque, needing 12-feet plus to bring home the hardware. The High Jump bar will be hovering right around 5-feet, with Payton Kochanski at 5-2.

Horizontal Jumps - Upstate vs Downstate in the Triple Jump as Linnea Neureuther (Springville) and Rhianna Lugg (Paul Robeson) both find themselves just over 38-feet. In the Long, PA's Athena Phinnessee leads the field at 17-2.

Throws - Local Prizila Negrete (Ursuline) is leading the Shot at 38-feet, but is runner-up in the Discus. The flatter implement is led by Juliana Juras (Marlboro) at 130-feet. US #4 Jillian Leahy (Lincoln, RI) is looking to break 160 in the Hammer, at one of the biggest meets for the event.
