Boys Eastern State Championships - Individuals
Recap: It wasn't the time Devan Kipyego was looking for, but the Van Cortlandt backhills are nothing to scoff at. He got out fast, first across the bridge, but as the race developed behind him, Kipyego had the hills to himself. Still clear of the field back across the bridge, the final straight took it's toll. He crossed in 12:14.4, still the 14th fastest mark ever, and the third fastest by an athlete outside of the Tri-State.
The field was closing on Kipyego, with Antonio Camacho-Bucks having a breakout race. He closed the gap down to under 3 seconds, making him the second fastest Maryland athlete in course history. The same can be said about Nate Lopez for his homestate of Massachusetts, taking home the bronze.
