Title Defense, Big Performances Define State XC Meet - Recap

Girls Class A Teams

State of the Action: In what many considered to be the closest race of the day coming into the meet, ended up producing two National Level performances, but a reversal of fortune from the year before.  In 2018, Saratoga broke the 12-year streak for Fayetteville-Manlius in Class A by one point.  In 2019, the pendulum swung the other way. Saratoga ran one of their strongest races of the year, better than their showing at Suburban's, but just a little off their breakthrough at Sectionals.  In fact, their compression got tighter from two weeks prior.

To respond, Manlius saw big improvements from Phoebe White, who was their third at Sectionals but moved to their second here, and from their fifth, Debbie Luchetti, who took a ten second Speed Rating bump. It was FM's first compression of the year under 2mins, which includes the Manhattan Short Course.  The last big swing came from North Rockland's Haliegh Morales, who took a ten point Speed Rating jump, bypassing Saratoga's compression, and took away three points to the projected scoring gap between the front two teams.  It all combined to reverse the projections.

Both teams now move forward relevant to the National Scene.  They will meet again at Bowdoin for Regionals, but not before Saratoga looks to add to their Federation Title collection next week.
