The CHSAA league for the NYC area Catholic teams will be convening on Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday to decide who rules the trails following their recent skirmishes at the NY-BQ CHSAA and NSCHSAA sectionals or maybe the Westchester County meet. On the boys' side, the ultimate showdown looms between reigning champ Xavier and a resurgent Saint Anthony's team. On the girls' side, thrice reigning champ Notre Dame tries to leave the pursuing packs from Kellenberg and Sacred Heart in the dust.
These previews do not include the Buffalo-area CHSAA schools who instead ran at the Monsignor Martin championship last Sunday. There St. Francis was a 40-54-59 winner over Canisius and St. Joseph's Collegiate and Tom Appenheimer of Cardinal O'Hara was 1st in 17:32.44. On the girls' side, Nardin Academy repeated as champs ahead of Mount Saint Mary, Sacred Heart (Buffalo), and Nichols by a score of 42-73-78-83, and St. Mary's Libby Benzer was 1st in 20:59.90 after being 3rd last year and 2nd in 2015.
Apologies
to all the speedy runners who do not quite fit in the Top Runners list
for their section, but we needed a limit. For those left out, use our ignorance of your supreme talents to kill it at the championship.
As always,
please
note that neither the speed-ratings-based listings of teams nor the 5K
time virtual meet scores are meant to be exact predictions of how a race
will turn out since there are many unknown factors at work here. The
virtual meets based on 5K times are never a very good summary for any XC
event, and teams from the CHSAA like Xavier and Sacred Heart who run mainly 4Ks at VCP or 3 mile races will not find a huge amount to go by. We are not seriously projecting that Kellenberg, Iona Prep, and Chaminade will finish 1-2-3 for the boys as the the 5K virtual calculates. But
use the links to the 5K scorecard if you wish to get some minimal
information about the teams.
