Section 6 Spotlight: Jeffrey Menyah, Niagara Falls

What do you enjoy about your event?
I enjoy being under pressure and clearing every hurdle without knocking them down.

What has been the highlight in your running/throwing/jumping career thus far?
The highlight of my running has been beating my competitions and getting personal records.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you while competing?
The funniest thing ever happened is when I had a bad landing in Long jump at the team championship with my face full of sand.

What thoughts run through your head while competing?
I motivate myself, I set targets in front of me when I’m reaching it I set another even further.

What other sports do you enjoy?
I enjoy playing Soccer, Football, Baseball and Basketball.

What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is "Waakye ne sheto", an old favrite from my home country of Ghana in West Africa. It consists of rice and beans cooked together with dry sorghum leaves to give it a brownish color and "sheto" is the stew that goes with it, made with dry fish, shrimps, and lots of pepper! It turns out dark when its done. You can eat it with goat meat, pear, chicken, eggs. And we eat them on cassava leaves or sometimes with our hands.

What is one of your favorite movies?
My favorite movie is “Get Hard” with Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell.

What would be your ideal vacation?
My ideal vacation would be hanging out with my 4x400 relay team at a State meet and meeting new friends.

Who is your role model and why?
Grant Holloway (Grassfield HS, Chesapeake, Virginia) is my role model, because he is the same age as me and in the same grade but is state and nation champion, which makes me want to work harder to get to his level.

What do you do to relax?
I take ice baths and listen to music.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
I see myself in the Olympics sprinting and jumping.
