Section 6 Spotlight: Patrick Ryan, Hamburg

2014 McQuaid Invitational

What do you enjoy about your event?
I enjoy how my events in cross country, indoor, and outdoor track constantly push me to my limits and the gratification that comes with knowing you gave a race your all.

What has been the highlight in your running/throwing/jumping career thus far?
I wouldn't say I have a had a major highlight thus far in my running career but this past season was my second year of competing in cross country; coming from a non-distance track background, being able to see how far I have come and seeing my times drop every meet.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you while competing?
The funniest thing actually happened to me before competing in my first Indoor Track meet, freshman year at Lancaster I got locked in the bathroom for 10 minutes right before my race.

What thoughts run through your head while competing?
I have been working on trying to focus more during races and repeating things in my head to push myself or I just think of song lyrics.

What other sports do you enjoy?
I enjoy playing soccer, even though I’m awful at it.

What is your favorite food?
I really like Mexican food. I’ll also throw down on chips and sour patch kids, how awful of a runner do I sound like right now?

What is one of your favorite movies?
One of my favorite movie is “The Breakfast Club” .

What would be your ideal vacation?
My ideal vacation would be to a tropical island of some kind.

Who is your role model and why?
I have many role models, people like Steve Jobs, Brian Williams, and Meredith Vieira, because all of them were able to rise up in tough fields and make a difference.

What do you do to relax?
To relax I like to be with my friends or watch my favorite TV shows.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
In 20 years, I see myself reporting/anchoring for a major news network, living in NYC, furthering my career, and running in my free time.
Section6Runs encourages student-athletes and their coaches to complete the Spotlight questionnaire so individuals can be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the sports of XC and Track & Field.
