Section 6 Spotlight: Brad Bedell, Lancaster

2013 McQuaid XC Invitational

2013 Checkers/Runners Roost
ROTW XC Invitational

What do you enjoy about your event?
I really enjoy the competition, more the better, because the more competition I have, the more I will be pushed to run faster and hopefully get a new PR.

What has been the highlight in your running/throwing/jumping career thus far?
The highlight of my running career would definitely be when I ran at McQuaid, placing in the top 10, and running an amazing PR, 16:05, over 30 seconds faster than my previous 3-mile time.

What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you while competing?
The funniest thing that has happened to me while I was competing was at a meet during indoor at the Lancaster track; my spikes were wet because I was just recently outside in the snow, and I slipped at the start, got up, and my spikes were still squeaking for a few laps, but I ran a PR and won my race, so I’m not complaining.

What thoughts run through your head while competing?
When I am competing there are many things going through my head, one is how I can catch the guy in front of me and if I know my time at the mile or two mile, I will try and calculate what my final time will be, I also do this during the mile and 2-mile in track, if someone gives me my splits.

What other sports do you enjoy?
Another sport that I enjoy is Ultimate Frisbee, although I’m not very good at it, it is nice to do something besides running every now and then.

What is your favorite food?
My favorite food is the turkey on Thanksgiving, I don’t like many other foods but turkey is definitely the best.

What is one of your favorite movies?
My favorite movie is "Tommy Boy."

What would be your ideal vacation?
My ideal vacation would be just relaxing on the beach somewhere, and preferably a track nearby.

Who is your role model and why?
My role model is my mom, and that is because she is raising my brother and I alone, she shows me that you can do anything if you put your mind to it, and she is the one who urged me to start running.

What do you do to relax?
When I want to relax I usually just lay down and watch TV or listen to music.

Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
In 20 years I see myself as a teacher with a wife, and kids, still running road races, and coaching XC and track.
