NYT&F Battle of the Years - Leaders Showdown 2008-2015

. . . . . . Group 1: Sprints

In the sprints, it's always amazing how four tenths of a second can seem like an eternity

There is a little controversy from the start, because one of the guys in the 100m got a handheld time while the rest of the guys were FAT (Fully Automatic Timing). That hand-held time was also the winner, and it allowed him to claim the second fastest time in the USA back in 2010. Some would say that 0.24 seconds should be added to that mark, and I certainly sympathize with this year's fans who think that Anton Porter was the winner. But the BotY rulebook was unclear on this matter, and whichever way you look at it, Jordan Thomas was a very fast guy.

The guys from 2010 jump out to an early lead with a pair of 1sts thanks to commanding performances by Jordan Thomas and Darnell Cummings. Now the question is can they hold that lead all the way to the finish line, because the Top15 BotY champ 2015 squad is just a short step behind after Anton Porter and Rai Benjamin chipped in two 2nds to keep the score close.

The junior Brenessa Thompson had no respect for this year's elder senior self, helping the 2014 squad run to a 2nd place tie for the sprints. Kadecia Baird sends 2012 into the lead with a win in the 200m, also beating her senior visage, after she and her mirror image ran to 11.63 times in the 100m that no photo-finish crews could determine a difference in. The 2010 girls are sitting in good position after Chamique Francis and Whitney Fountain team up for 14 points. The 2015 squad starts out back in 6th place, but there's still 16 events to go.

The 2010 squad won the Combined title along with Girls championship in the BotY Top15 meet, and they are off and kicking backside with a big lead after the sprinting action in the first group is completed. The squads from the last four years are grouped pretty closely in 2nd through 5th, with this year's squad a tad ahead for the quartet.
