2017 Girls NYSPHSAA State Meet Preview

Girls Class A - Individuals

What The Numbers Say: The numbers are pretty clear.  Katelyn Tuohy is the best runner in the country, at the moment.  She has run over 158 in every race she has run this season, and that may even be a low estimate for her early races.  Several of those efforts came via "workouts," which have still elicited course records in the process.  Consider the sophomore the favorite.

What The Numbers Say: If there is anyone in the country outside of California's Claudia Lane that could put pressure on Tuohy, it would be defending State Champion Kelsey Chmiel.  Chmiel has the best resume in the country at the National Level, placing in the Top 5 at NXN the past two years.  Chmiel set both the SPAC Course Record, and ran All-Time Top 5 fast at Great American.  Manlius also has three quality runners capable of winning any other race in the country, but Chmiel and Tuohy are far enough ahead of them.  Only time will tell how each of the top athletes handle the mud, which could bring the race in closer, but it should be one heck of a matchup, which we are surely to see play out again at both Feds and Regionals.
