Boys AA

Individuals

Breakdown: Billed as one of the best races of the day, Boys AA didn't disappoint. The two fastest returners were joined by Canadian Thomas Witkowicz, a two-time provincial champ back in Canada. Using his nine-flat speed, Witkowicz pulled the field fast through the first mile, right around 4:45. By then, only top-seeded Ian Russ and Nate Lawler were able to stay in the conversation. At two miles, Witkowicz crossed in 9:44, and it was only Russ who had managed to stay in contact. Lawler was close, but a gap was growing. Witkowicz used the final hill to separate more, and came through 12:02 with 800m to go. He pushed through to the line, finishing No. 6 all-time. A little bit of déjà vu for Russ and Lawler, who finished at nearly the exact same finishing time as the year before.

Teams

Breakdown: Staying clear of the battle out at the front of the race, the boys of Xavier stayed close together to produce the smallest compression of the day, the only team boys or girls under 30 seconds. In addition to teammates high up in the race, the tactic proved to be a winning strategy for the boys of NYC.
