This Year's Outlook
Smithtown was a surprise as new kids on the block while moving up to a 4th place in the always deep S11-A. Though she missed out on a trip to States even with a 6th place Sectional finish, Gabrielle Schneider combines with Catherine Farrell to give the Bulls a big 1-2 punch at the top, and if they can get deeper help behind them, Smithtown could be the favorites in Sectionals. The Bulls may just need a few more runners named Emily.

This Year's Outlook
Ithaca will be in a three-way dog fight in S4-A with Elmira and Corning, and it has Rayle returning as one of the top two runners in the section. Tomasik also comes back with States experience, and the team will need to win the battle at the 2-5 spots to win its first Sectional crown in 6 years.

This Year's Outlook
Bay Shore lost longtime frontrunner Bridget Kanaley to graduation, but the rest of the gang from last year's S11-A 3rd place finishers is back on a young squad that has a lot of room to develop. Sophomores Singh and Carpenter and freshman Trifoli are looking to lead the Marauders back to States for the first time in 9 years.

This Year's Outlook
Canandaigua heads back up to Class A after a two year stint in Class B and a Sectional crown last year with a young team. The move comes at a fortunate time for the Braves since they are rated as the top team in in S5-A. Cobos and Rheude return to give a strong lead two for the team, and with the rest of last year's varsity also back, the Braves could have the depth to take a second straight Sectional title.

This Year's Outlook
It is extremely rare for a team that finished 8th in its Sectionals to project as one of top 20 teams in the state in the following year, but everyone from last year's varsity is back, and more importantly, Carmel's top two projected runners for 2016 who were lost to injuries in XC now seem to have returned to excellent form judging by track results. With seniors Angela Castronuovo and Jade Sessions rejoining a team that saw Katie Turk take the helm last year as an 8th grader, the Rams could be tough. Everything will depend on staying healthy, and ratings for returning runners always need to be scaled back, but if Carmel can find some more depth, it should be a contender in S1-A.
