For the Outdoors Battle of the Years, the 2010 athletes were the Girls and Combined winners, and the 2015 boys were kings. Indoors it was all 2015, as last year's boys and girls both triumphed. So what's the story? Are the recent athletes getting better and as some believe, or was it just a flukey year of high achievers coming together to push performance levels to a peak for the 2015 indoor season? It was probably a little bit of both. The indoor facilities have improved in recent years as arenas have been upgraded, and more and more high level events are pitting top athletes against each other from December to March. Maybe the weather was better last year, and maybe there was just something in the water or the air (I noticed that the atmosphere in one well-known New York City venue had much less of the sand paper grit I was used to in former years). Clearly though, we seem to be getting into a golden age of indoor track.
