State of the Action: On the starting line, sectional teammates Dawson Bathgate and Alex Hogue made
a pact: try to sweep the top two slots for Section 5. Through the
first mile, the pack quickly thinned. Two from Section 5, two from
Northern Country. The quartet battled on, as the clear front runner in
Bathgate began to separate through the back hills, attacking each one
with a new vigor. He pulled away within the last mile, a finishing
speed evident all year. He had made known that States was the goal, and
that it was the most important one at that. He came across the line
nearly ten seconds ahead of the field, to win. Behind him, Hogue was
keeping his end of the bargain, pushing towards the finish, just ahead
of the pack. Jon Gay had utilized his track speed to hold off a fast closing Evan Whitaker for third. And it was Adam Saucier to be the final athlete under 17mins in Class D. |
