NY Relays To Blow Open The Early Season - Meet Preview

Boys Hurdles

Spotlight

110m Hurdles

Much like the girls, the State's three fastest returners will face off here. Sidney Gibbons (Monsignor McClancy) is the reigning Indoor State Champion, and State Leader. He has clocked a 14.32 last spring. However, Powell Deslandes (Medgar Evers) topped that at States, with his 14.21. The pair is trailed by current NY #2 Kevaughn Gordon (Dewitt-Clinton), who hit 14.36. With the margins so slim here in the hurdles, it is anyone's race, but one thing is for certain: expect the state leader to go down.

400m Hurdles

This event looks to be all about Rai Benjamin (Mount Vernon). One of the top returners in the country, in both the open 400m and the hurdles, looks to open his season over barriers at the NY Relays. He'll have competition to make the pace honest, including Nathan Narcisse (Classical, RI), who has broken the 40-second barrier for the 300m Hurdles. Likewise, Sean Patterson (Red Bank Regional, NJ) has also hit under 56-seconds last year, and will look to improve upon his early season 58-sec mark.

Steeple

Warwick may only have a lone entry in the event, but he leads the field by fifteen seconds. Dan Peterson has the top seeds circling around 6:15, however Xavier's Lou Vasquez and Christian Raslowsky look to put pressure on the Purple Wave. With the nicer conditions, look for the state leader to go down.
