NY Relays To Blow Open The Early Season - Meet Preview

Boys Distance

Spotlight

800m

Making a splash Indoors, Kareem Josephs (Clara Barton) excelled at both the 600m and the 1000m. Finding middle ground outdoors, he is your top seed in the 800m. But he'll have fellow city-mate Shavenes Robinson (Boys and Girls) to deal with. Robinson has the faster personal best of 1:57.21, but will have to deal with Kyle Guzman (Fordham Prep) if he wants to solidify the victory. Guzman proved strong for Fordham at Nationals, running the 800m leg on their DMR.

Mile

The winner of this race may have some decisions to make, if they be a New Yorker. With the State Meet on the same day, you need to pick your poison. Jack Salisbury (La Salle Academy, RI) will look to make that decision easy, winning the race outright, and not havin to worry about conflicts. James Buke (Port Jefferson) is also entered in the field, top finisher in the mile at Nationals (not named Grant Fisher). While Burke may have the faster personal best only just at 4:08.45, Salisbury got the better of Burke at the New Balance Grand Prix in Boston this indoor season. Will it play out the same?

And what of Michael Vittuci (St. Xavier, OH), who has a 1600m personal best of 4:07.96. Could he steal the show out from under the rematch? That's not to mention Aidan Tooker (Saratoga), who also finds himself in the field, his first race back after setting the State Record in the 2-Mile at Nationals. Despite John Rice's (Xavier) exemplerary 4:13.31 mark, and Alex Maguire's (Fairfax, VA) 4:15.45, it seems they will need to grab a personal best to be in the mix. This race should be fast.

3200m

Much like previous years, look for this to be Ridgfield, CT running the show. With three athletes at 9:30, Austin Gilbert, Clint Corso, and Gabe Altopp will look to run the show. However, Tommy Sommer (East Greenwich, RI) has run 9:23 this indoor season for the full two miles, and could pull the upset. Eric Chen (Stuyvesant) looks to be the top New Yorker, and will stay in the race.
