One of the State's Oldest Records on the books is now history!
Aiden Bryant (Midlakes) is the reigning Indoor State Champion in both the Long and Triple Jump. Indoors, he set the Sophomore State Record in the latter, hitting 48-8 to set the standard at his Indoor State Qualifier. Now Outdoors, he only needed one leap to rewrite the record books.
At the Section 5 Class B1 Championships, Batavia Stadium, Bryant leapt a huge 24-9 on his final attempt of the competition, into a negative headwind. Once measured with a steel tape, that mark bettered the previous Sophomore State Record by nearly five inches.
The previous record was held by Greg Flippin (Riverhead), who set that mark way back in 1969. Flippin previously also held the Junior State Record at 25-feet even, before it was broken by another Section 5 athlete in 2012.
Bryant's mark ranks him NY #6 All-Time in the Long Jump. He is also US #3 this year for legal jumps. The National Sophomore Record for the Long Jump stands at 25-2.25.
